ITINERARY
Day 1
We begin the tour in Puerto Maldonado, traveling by motorboat for 40 minutes along the Madre de Dios River to the trail entrance. After passing the Tambopata National Reserve control post, we walk approximately 1 hour (2.7 km) through the rainforest.
During the walk, our naturalist guide will explain the diverse flora and fauna of the area. At the end of the trail, we board a paddling canoe for a 30-minute journey across the lake to our lodge. After lunch and rest, we explore the lake by canoe to observe wildlife and enjoy the Amazon sunset, then return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 2
After breakfast, we`ll go on a 3-hour guided walk through a beauty and primary forest dominated by giant Brazil nut trees, learning about their ecological and economic importance. We also search for wildlife and discover the real Amazonian medicinal plants and fungi.
After lunch and rest, we gonna explore the lake in the afternoon, visiting a lookout tower to enjoy the scenery and observe wildlife at sunset. After dinner, we enjoy a 1-hour night walk to observe nocturnal animals such as: insects, spiders, tarantulas, frogs, reptiles, and possibly mammals like armadillos, sloths, kinkajous, and night monkeys.
Day 3
Before sunrise, we`ll go by canoe to the main lake dock and then we walk 20 minutes to a clay lick of aguaje palms (Mauritia flexuosa). Here, we observe spectacular blue-and-yellow macaws (Ara ararauna), along with other macaws, parrots, and parakeets.
We return to the lodge for breakfast and enjoy free time to relax in hammocks or visit a nearby stream. After lunch, we may explore the lake again or take another jungle walk to search for additional wildlife or specific plant species. In the evening, we share our final dinner of the Amazon expedition.
Day 4
Very early in the morning, we enjoy the sunrise at the lake, observing wildlife such as: macaws, parrots, toucans, howler monkeys, caimans, kingfishers, and giant otters. After breakfast, we prepare for our return to Puerto Maldonado.
