ITINERARY
Day 1
We start the tour from the city of Puerto Maldonado, boarding a motorboat for a 40-minute ride along the majestic Madre de Dios River until reaching the trail entrance. After 150 meters, we arrive at the Tambopata National Reserve control post, then continue with a guided walk of approximately 1 hour (2.7 km).
Along the trail, accompanied by our expert naturalist guide, you will learn about the rich variety of flora (ceiba tree, iron tree, giant fig trees, palm trees, etc.) and fauna (monkeys, macaws, squirrels, sloths, etc.). At the end of the trail, we reach the lake dock, where we board a paddling canoe for a 30-minute to our tourist lodge located on the shores of the lake.
Upon arrival, you will be assigned comfortable rooms with private bathrooms. After lunch and some rest, we head out by canoe to explore the lake shores in search of wildlife such as: monkeys, herons, wild ducks, hoatzins, caimans, and the impressive giant river otter. We will also enjoy the magical Amazon sunset before returning to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 2
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we set out on a 3-hour guided walk through a forest of giant Brazil nut trees. You will learn about this important species and its role in the local economy, while also searching for wildlife and discovering Amazonian secrets such as medicinal plants and toxic and medicinal fungi.
After returning to the lodge, we enjoy lunch and rest. In the afternoon, we explore another part of the lake, heading toward a lookout tower to enjoy panoramic views and observe active wildlife while admiring a beautiful sunset.
After dinner, we go on a 1-hour night walk, a unique opportunity to observe nocturnal creatures such as insects, spiders, tarantulas, frogs, reptiles, and—with some luck—nocturnal birds or mammals like armadillos, sloths, kinkajous, and night monkeys. We then return to the lodge to rest.
Day 3
Very early in the morning, we visit the lake to enjoy the sunrise and observe wildlife such as macaws, parrots, toucans, howler monkeys, caimans, kingfishers, and giant otters. Afterward, we return to the lodge for breakfast and then prepare for our return to Puerto Maldonado.
