ITINERARY
From the city of Puerto Maldonado, we’ll board a motorboat along the majestic Madre de Dios River (30 to 40 minutes) and then enjoy one hour hike (2.7 km) through the lush jungle to reach Sandoval Lake. During the journey, our expert naturalist guide will help you enjoy and learn about the richness of the local flora and fauna. After completing the trail, we’ll arrive at the dock to board a canoe and together with our guide we can explore a mysterious 200-meter water channel that leads to the lake. Then we`ll explore the lake in search of the wide variety of fauna that inhabits it, such as giant otters, black caimans, monkeys, turtles, bats, and more. As well as s great variety of birds such as the shansho, kingfishers, herons, swallows, macaws, wild ducks, cormorants, and more. The lake is surrounded by lush aguaje palm trees that provide a unique and spectacular landscape. At midday, we will stop at one of the local tourist inns located on the lakeshore to enjoy a fresh and delicious lunch. After a short break, we`ll come back to our canoe for the return journey to the city.
